The birth flower of July, larkspur (Delphinium consolida) is a staple in any cottage garden, both on its own and planted with other flowers, and will readily self-seed, coming back year after year. It evokes perfectly the image of an English cottage garden.

Larkspur are upright annuals with deeply pinnately or palmate leaves, and racemes or panicles of small, spurred, delphinium-like flowers in summer. The roots grow into the soil up to a depth of 50 centimeters (20 inches), so the plant can survive long periods of drought.

The "Fancy" variety was bred specifically to be a good cut flower with a long vase life.

Belladonna features pale lilac-pink flowers with purple stripes and a white center.
It grows up to 120 cm tall and 30 cm wide, and generally takes 120 days from seed to bloom.
