Amaranthus Velvet Curtains is a stunning annual variety that produces deep crimson, fanciful stems of single and multiple spires that emerge from 30" to 36" inch plants with shiny purple-red foliage. Amaranthus thrives in hot conditions and is easy to grow. This variety can add depth and textural interest when grown as a garden ornamental and makes a lovely backdrop to other bright flowers by adding color contrast. A popular cut flower crop used both fresh and dried.

Winner of an RHS Award of Garden Merit for reliability and good performance.

Height: 150cm

Plant Class: Half-Hardy Annual

GROWTH AND CARE
Provide protection from frost and sow 1mm deep into good seed compost. When they are large enough to handle, thin them out and pot them on individually. Pinching out the growing tips will encourage bushier growth. After all frost has passed, gradually harden off and plant outside in a sunny, sheltered spot with rich soil. Allow at least 30cm between each plant. Keep the plants well-watered and feed regularly during the growing season.

Sow: March-May
Flowering: June-October
